TaTEDO and WUWE in Lushoto
TaTEDO joined EEDI-Lushoto in 2005 in order to spread the use of TaTEDO's energy technologies in Lushoto and develop ties with other organizations to identify local community members interested in further energy technology training.
The TaTEDO offices in Lushoto are also the home to the West Usambara Women's Education group (WUWE). This local, women-run CBO works to engender natural resources activities and empower women in the community around the West Usambara ranges.
WUWE works with TaTEDO in the process of disseminating knowledge and skills of improved energy technologies with a focus on spreading fuel-efficient stoves throughout the region to respond to the constraints of fuel wood fetching drudgery and drying up of water sources due to deforestation.
They are striving to distribute the Ukombozi fuel-efficient stove throughout the West Usambaras by teaching women entrepreneurs to build the stoves in homes of interested customers.
WUWE provides capacity building in training women on kitchen management, promoting agro-forestry practices to
increase soil fertility, and woodfuel resource management in the community around West
Usambara. The target groups are stove artisans, tree nursery owners, households, and institutions.
