The Lushoto District Health and Sanitation Department is the local branch of the Tanzania Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. Mr. John Orio, active EEDI member and District Health and Sanitation Officer, has primarily focused his work on improving the environmental quality of the Lushoto marketplace, bringing food products off of the ground and reducing possibility of contamination by wastewater. This work and the additional installation of market infrastructure has led to increased growth in the agricultural market and a decline in water-borne diseases. Mr. Orio's next plans include additional control and treatment of liquid waste as well as beginning a solid waste control plan.
