Mission:
To execute environment protection measures in a manner that is acceptable at the community level abide to national and international standards.

The full organization name, Chama cha Maendeleo Vijijini Tanga, means, in kiSwahili, "Foundation for the rural development of the region of Tanga."  The organization emerged after the breakdown of the development office of the Catholic Diocese of Tanga (TADDO), which had been involved with water drinking supply development in the area.  The community members were very happy with the work of TADDO and ten to twelve of the former TADDO members merged together to form ChamaVita, with the above mentioned mission.

ChamaVita's members are experts in a number of environmental management fields, including water sanitation, community development, agriculture, environmental management, and finance.
