Lushoto,
Tanzania.
September - December 2003. A training program for the youth of Lushoto applying
an interactive and hands-on methodology to help them start and run their own
environmental enterprise.
EVI ran the Environmental
Entrepreneurship Training Program (EETP) with a group of 27 youth who were trained to start their own
environmental enterprises. The EETP used an experiential, participative, and
active learning methodology to complement the Asset Based Community Development
Approach to the training. Students identified local sustainability assets and
needs. EVI partnered with local organizations and individuals to supply
technical training to leverage participants’ skills in environmental technology
and methodologies, and natural resource management.
The participants ran
group-based businesses, which provided real-world learning experience to
acquire entrepreneurship skills and build confidence around running
environmental enterprises. The youth were then guided step-by-step through setting
up and running their own individual environmental enterprises.
