 Since 1997 Sustainable Sonoma Country (SSC) has been working
with the community to provide education and resources to help transition
community members to a sustainable lifestyle. The organization decided to focus
on local change because they believe that will eventually filter out to other
communities and eventually the world. To expedite the process in 2004 SSC
partnered with Leadership Institute for Ecology and the Economy which helps to spread
resources developed by the SSC outside Sonoma County.
SSC accomplishes their goal of aligning the community with a
sustainable lifestyle through their programs, educational resources, community
events, and connecting the community with local sustainable businesses. The
organization's projects have included an online network connecting community
members, businesses, and other communities together. Other projects have included
an ecological footprint study and education sessions on global climate change
and sustainable lifestyle. SSC also has multiple events weekly including day
hikes, making natural products, and clean-up sessions. For more information on
