Nanosolar has created solar panels that are 1/100
th
of conventional solar panels, making them only 1/10
th of the cost. These
panels are based on thin film technology which allows solar cells to be printed
onto metal sheets as thin as aluminum foil. This means that solar cells can now
be produced for about $1 per watt. With this advance, solar energy will be able to truly compete with fossil fuel on the market because it is now a more affordable
price for businesses and consumers. Nanosolar's production of these solar cells
will generate 430 megawatts of energy per year which is four times the amount
that is produced by solar plants today.

To further increase the availability of solar cells,
Nanosolar plans on building the world's largest solar cell factory. This will
make the U.S. the second
largest producer of solar energy, just behind Japan. Learn more at the
Nanosolar home page.
