Urban and rural solid waste accumulation,
in the form of plastic bags and rubber tires for example, is an increasing
problem in terms of water sanitation, soil pollution and infertility, human health hazards, and overall community well-being.
Solid-waste reuse presents numerous opportunities to clean the waste
stream and conserve resources through creating new products and items out of previously unwanted objects. EEDI-Dar
declared its first project goal to assist Tanzanian youth organizations to
alleviate
poverty through sustainable natural resources management
enterprise development and training. EEDI-Dar organized during the planning phase of EEDI-Lushoto, with interested organizations from Dar es Salaam taking part in the training. They originally were going to work alongside EEDI-Lushoto but decided to break into a separate cluster after recognizing the major differences in challenges facing their respective communities.
