About EcoVentures International

EcoVentures International (EVI) is a non-profit organization launched in 2002 by a social change-maker (after recognizing its need during the United Nations' World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa).

Our Vision and Mission

EcoVentures International strives to support the development of sustainable communities and sustainable livelihoods. We recognize that economic, social, environmental, and generational sustainability rely upon each other and need to be more effectively integrated within development programs. Our mission is to inspire, connect, mentor, and train community members, especially youth, to develop as socially and environmentally committed practitioners, entrepreneurs, and ambassadors of sustainable development.

We achieve this through working with community partners to develop and deliver environmental enterprise dialogues, trainings, and learning journeys; facilitating collaborative action projects amongst diverse stakeholders; and establishing networks for environmental enterprise development at community levels. We continually investigate the dynamic relationship between business development and environmental management to explore how these can be a source of innovation and sustainability for communities on the local and global scale.

Our Perspective Paul Hawkin Quote

EcoVentures International believes that environmental challenges can be addressed, in part, through the development of environmentally sustainable and restorative products and services that provide both business opportunity and ecologically sustainable alternatives to individuals and communities. We research and support the application and market-development of appropriate environmental enterprises, from rain-water collection barrels in rural Tanzania and portable solar panels in Kenya, to organic products in local markets in Europe and water filtration systems in Washington, D.C.

Opportunities and Goals

There are a growing number of opportunities arising from approaching micro and small business development through a natural resource management lens: new market niches, more efficient production; more effective and cleaner technologies; and cost-effective inputs. Environmental entrepreneurs are able to develop a mindset that embraces and adapts to the dynamic changes both in the natural world and the global marketplace.

Our goal is to support environmental entrepreneurship and the development of micro and small enterprises that move beyond the greening of practices to providing environmental products and services to enhance and protect local resources, meet the demands of the marketplace, provide employment, and provide youth with a greater sense of where they fit into their community and the world.
