Updates from the field: The Lushoto Seminar and Study Tour Report

In September briquette producers from Uganda and Kenya joined their colleagues in from the six areas in Lushoto District where production currently takes place. The seminar was held in Lushoto town and provided insight into the successes and challenges that each of the groups has experienced.

Briquetting Enterprise Development Pilot Project
The Briquetting Enterprise Development Pilot Project (BEDPP) is an action research project training young entrepreneurs to produce and market biomass briquettes. The project partners the work of the Uganda Gender Rights Foundation with that of EEDI-Lushoto, with shared learning and support concurrent to and following technical training.
Alternative Energy Enterprise Initiative
A project initiated by EEDI-Arusha/Moshi, the Alternative Energy Enterprise Initiative (AEEI) aims to facilitate the successful adoption of briquetting technologies and practices around Arusha City. In collaboration with the Women's Development of Science and Technology Association (WODSTA) and EVI, AEEI focuses on the retail sale of briquettes for the household, as well as to schools and hotels.
